Eating Right By Joey Brausch Most people you ask will admit they are concerned with their diet. Why aren't they making better nutritional choices? A poor can lead to a variety of health problems, such as: obesity, heart disease, joint and arthritis problems, and general poor health. You can begin to gradually improve the way that you eat and make subtle changes to the foods that are a part of your everyday diet. It's easiest to begin with small changes because you may find yourself more accepting of the change. If you begin by making drastic changes to your daily diet, most likely you will go back to your earlier eating habits when the cravings begin.
It is important that you get enough fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Try to choose vegetables that are dark in color, such a leafy greens for your salad. When you are choosing fruits try to pick fruits that have a high amount of vitamins, such as bananas or oranges. Start slowly by increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables that you eat in one day and before you know it you’ll be up to the recommended amount of fresh foods that you consume.
When it comes to your grain and bread products it is important to make healthy choices and steer away from the white bread and other refined
flours. White bread will give you no amount of nutrition, unlike whole grain breads that are a great source of fiber and other vitamins and minerals. It will be easy to add a whole bran cereal to your morning routine and you’ll soon find yourself enjoying the taste of whole grains.
Try to limit the amount of red meats that you eat and start reaching for healthier choices such as fish and poultry. Reduce the amount of fat that you eat in your diet, no only animal fat but other fats as well. When you are cooking choose healthy oils such as virgin olive oil and canola oil. When at all possible try to bake or poach your fish and poultry, reducing the amount of fat in your even more. Eliminate or reduce the amount of fried foods that you consume, such as donuts and potato chips. Reach for healthier choices such as popcorn (with a limited amount of butter) and rice cakes.
Do you crave sweets? Try eating dried fruit or low fat cookies or ice cream rather than cakes and cookies. You might also like low fat candy. It takes time to change your eating habits, but you'll succeed if you are patient and determined. The bonuses are that you will feel healthier, be more active, and realize that these healthy foods are actually more satisfying than you ever imagined.
