Hoodia Gordonii

Hoodia Gordonii is a naturally occurring cactus type succulent plant that grows in the deep forests of Kalahari in South Africa, also known as the home of San People. The San have been using Hoodia for centuries to stave off hunger while going through arduous hunting trips in the ruthless South African jungles. They would chew the raw plant during hunting trips, which helped them to stay without eating or drinking almost nothing for many days at a stretch. These unique properties of Hoodia Gordonii are being utilized now to produce weight management supplement…that’s amazing! “What would they think of next?”

Hoodia Gordonii is known to suppress appetite and result in weight loss without any side effects. Some of the big pharmaceutical companies have invested heavily into further research and development of the process to synthesize the active ingredients of the Hoodia Gordonii plant.

Ever since CBS 60 minutes presented a segment in November 2004 about miracle Hoodia Gordonii, this weird and wonderful cactus like plant has become the biggest sensation ever to hit the consumer market for weight control in North America. The overwhelming popularity and demand for the Hoodia Gordonii plant has resulted in a large number of companies trying to market diet management supplements utilizing Hoodia Gordonii.

Dietary supplements based on Hoodia Gordonii are available in many different forms like tablets, capsules, lollipops and others. It becomes a difficult process for the consumer to decide, which way to go or what product to choose because there may be unscrupulous businesses trying to make a fast buck by selling spurious merchandize. One of the best ways to screen the products is to ensure that the company selling any type of dietary supplements based on Hoodia Gordonii is certified by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).
