Chemically, caffeine is an alkaloid belonging to the class oforganic compounds called methylxanthines chiefly derived fromplants. Coffee and caffeine act as potent stimulants. Caffeinecontained in coffee particularly stimulates the central nervoussystem (brain), skeletal muscles of the heart and therespiratory systems as well as delays fatigue.
